Sacred places in Gobustan


                   
         In the territory of Gobustan there are many sacred places. People who lives in this territory come to this sacred places, praying there, making a sacrifices there and so on. In this article you will get some information about two sacred places in Gobustan.

              Sofi Novruz

Sofi Novruz has lived in the XIX century. He was born in the Nardaran village of the Gobustan region and he later has moved to Arabgadim village of the Shamakhy. He was from the Nasirli generation, grandchild of Shix Eyyub Baba and one of the continuers of sufism.
According to legends Sofi Novruz used to do many miracles. He has been given talent by Allah (God). To inform one of such miracles will coincide. One day in the village where lived Sofi Novruz locusts fall on to gain cornfield. Villagers asked for help from Sofi Novruz. He banished locusts with his aba.
There is ancient Nasirlilar grave-yard near sacred place about VII century. On the each grave in the grave-yard have been carving brand signs (emblems) of the family.

                                                      Gara atli

Gara atli sacred place is situated in the South part of Kichikdash mountain. According to legend at early times when islam came to this land in the one of the battles which took place between arabian missionaries and non-beleivers devout head of military group lost his way. He was pursuited by non-beleivers and came to present place where Gara atli grave-yard. He fell from his horse and ran to the rocks hiding. Enemies cutted the the of horse. At that time the horse which was cutted head turns into stone. Holly person disappered.
 According to the other legend Gara atli baba was tortured from Arabia. So he took refuge to Azerbaijan. He undergone here attakcs too. When he was attacked he turned his horse to stone. Then he hid himself in the mountain and disappered. People considered this sacred place for recovering from ilnesses.

Being sacred places in the territory of Gobustan is not accidental. Beyukdash, Kichikdash and Jingirdag were considered holy places from ancient times up to our days. It seems that theses mountains turned to the holy places beacuse they were protector of kins.
